I chose Fengjia Civil Engineering at the beginning. In fact, like most students, I don’t know much about the scope of the Civil Engineering Department, and because I’m a transfer student, most of the first-year courses have not been taken, so I need to devote more attention to learning than other students. . I am very fortunate to meet a group of peers who are also transferring schools and departments. They can help and encourage each other so that I can have space in a new environment and field.

What do you study in civil engineering?

The Department of Civil Engineering learns from mountains and seas. The main core of the course is structure, surveying, geotechnical engineering, construction management, etc. The choice plan after graduation usually has three directions: a small number of people will choose to go abroad to venture, and the fresh people who stay in the country will be divided into two groups, graduate school, the college entrance examination, professional technicians, or after graduation Go directly out of society to find a job.

The civil engineering department has a wide range of employment options. Building houses, building bridges, and paving roads are the most well-known. Property preservation, restoration of historical sites, etc. are also possible ways for the civil engineering department in the future.

In addition to cultivating the soft skills that Feng Chia University values, the team also learns many professional skills, such as making posters, shooting MVs, setting up websites, designing LOGO and postcards, and so on. For me, the results are not all the most important, the memories left in the process are the most precious.

Micro credits are a great course arrangement in my opinion. You can choose courses you are interested in freely, and you can also experience the teaching styles of different teachers. The General Studies Salon is an open space located on the 10th floor of the Ryan Building. Free lectures are held irregularly every semester. It may be the feelings of exchange students living in different places, or the philosophical experience talks of graduate alumni, or the invitation from the school. Experts from all walks of life come to the school to share. Many times listening to others telling their own wonderful stories, you will find that you will be affected by their positive energy!

Most civil engineering students can integrate smoothly with the industry, and most of them choose to enter a construction factory or a construction company for an internship before graduation.

I am very fortunate to represent Feng Chia University to participate in the 107 summers on-site recording project for the earthquake-resistant reinforcement project of the school building. The National Earthquake Engineering Research Center cooperates with universities and the University of Science and Technology of Taiwan every year to supervise the construction of manufacturers and record the reinforcement data on the other. In addition, each school selected themes as the final thematic results of the students of each school to publish. I am very happy that I won first place.

When I asked the professor for this opportunity, because my grades were not particularly outstanding, and there were no relevant qualifications and background, I failed in my sophomore year and wrote dozens of resumes in my junior year before finally getting this opportunity. In the process of making the topic, the professor was full of surprises, but I am very grateful that I did not give up during the setbacks at the time.

In the summer of my junior year, I love to travel but have never had the opportunity to go abroad. I learned from the International Office that I only need to pay for air tickets and a small number of administrative expenses to experience life at Tongji University in Shanghai. In addition to interacting with students from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, I also visited famous scenic spots in Shanghai. The course lasted only 10 days, but it left deep memories in my heart.
